Aaaaaaand with that masked trip to Scottsdale, Puppet Pie à la Mobile has a little freezer for frozen treats! Which means, birthday parties, scouting groups, and crafternoons with your friends can start or cap their workshop off with popsicles or frozen margaritas (depending on the age group, of course)!
The freezer is out for the first time since 1973! Now we decided what to do with the flooring! What would *you* put down? ... (No fur! )
Tuck update! The giant freezer is out! I just finished up about 2 hours of scraping the white film off of the window closet to the camera, and the difference is just lovely! I’ll go back another day to put the shop vac to good use. Meanwhile Conrad and his team are doing amazing work with getting bits of rusted metal replaced seamlessly!
The ice cream cones have been painted for Puppet Pie à la Mobile’s $125-level contributors which means this week we’ll get all of the dots over to the (local) engraver! But there’s still a little extra time if you didn’t get your name in, yet! Consider honoring a loved one or a pet! Dot levels begin at $50 and go up to the deluxe pie à la mode at $314.15! You can find them on our website under Puppet Pie Ice Cream Truck!
Puppet Pie à la Mobile update! It LIVES!!!! My sweet little truck’s engine hums right along! We’re going to upgrade from a toggle/push-button start to a proper ignition with a key (seems like a safer choice). The instrument panel has been replaced and doesn’t she look so sweet? Don’t worry, the old one has retired to my art studio. It has tok much personality to ignore. The body work has been done and it looks really great. The freezer will come out this week & we’ve got to ...add blinkers & emergency toggles for the lights and windshield wipers. The next on the list is figuring out what kind of tires to get! We’re hoping there’s enough in the budget for white walls! After the window gets replaced, we paint! If you want to support the Puppet Pie ice cream truck, there’s still time to get your name on the inside of the truck on a dot or a pie! You can also pick up Puppet Pie swag in the form of a pin or a patch on our website!
Meet the Puppet Truck, part 8 The driver’s side window. This window is suuuch a good shape. Unfortunately it’s not *in* good shape (missing a glass panel & all), and finding a slider window this size (26 x 22) has proven difficult. This model of step van is definitely on the more rare side (at least from what I can tell) so finding something at a pick-n-pull isn’t realistic. ... It’s possible that we’ll need to resize it, (likely 2 smaller) with a different replacement window, which will definitely cost some dollars. Our fingers are crossed that a solution presents itself (via lots of research) sooner than later!
Look at the difference a few days of really hard work (by guys who know what they’re doing) can make! But, I got that blasted Shrek sticker off the passenger-side window! If you know me, you’ll know what an absolute sensory-conquering, I-deserve-a-treat-for-that feat that was! Don’t worry about the sticker, though. It’s going to a good home. I’ll work on rehoming the other stickers when they’re in the shade.
We’re happy to announce that the Puppet Pie Ice Cream Truck will be called: Puppet Pie à la Mobile! If you get the newsletter, you got the inside scoop a couple of weeks ago. Improve your October and get exclusive truck updates and bad jokes delivered to you anytime we’ve got exciting news to sharebut for real, not more than one in any given month because dude. Emails. So many emails.
Truck update! See the difference between the first photo and the second? The second is what happens when you sand down a vehicle and it behaves as expected. The third is what happens when that vehicle has been covered in stickers, then painted over, then covered in stickers and then painted over, then covered in stickers, then painted over, etc., etc., etc., since 1973. Which means more labor involved in getting it nice and smooth. We’re definitely leaving this to the exper...ts at Misfits CicK Kustoms. Conrad was nice enough to let me waste his time this morning while I just stood in the truck and dreamed a bit.
Behold: Mr. Spaghetti! I initially made him for the truck back in early March, when the world was innocent and we were allowed to realize our dreams. When I thought the truck-dream was on indefinite hold, I set him asidebut since the truck is in FULL swing (6 small folding tables arrived in the mail today!), I decided that he should live in his cute little to-go tray. Mr. Spaghetti will be just one of the tasty treats on the Puppet Pie Ice Cream Truck!
I’m so excited, I’ve been jumping up and down! I just got off the phone with the county health department to figure out exactly what I’ll need for the ice cream truck, and now an appropriate freezer has been ordered (it will arrive in December. Apparently the world has gone bonkers and thinks everything needs to be frozen), and the inverter and wiring have been purchased! Next on the list is picking out lighting for the inside and out! I talked to Conrad (ice cream truck rest...oration guy) and he’s starting on the engine work today! This thing is ice cream truckin’ along! Here’s a pic of a sheep puppet I made in an online workshop with John Kennedy last week! I’m trying to take moments to remind myself to make things for fun. If you’d like to make a sheep like this, try to track down his awesome book, Puppet Planet! Now I’m off to fill a couple of the fundraiser orders I got over the weekend!
The love and recognition I feel right now is just overwhelming! Thank you Phoenix New Times for naming Puppet Pie as one of the Best Of Phx! Unexpected and heartwarming! And thank you Lynn for pointing it out to me!
The pins have arrived!!! You can get yours on our website! Link in the comments!
